Mexican planetarium installs Digistar

The first planetarium in Mexico to feature an Evans & Sutherland Digistar 3 SP projection system has opened in Merida.

Merida is situated on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, birthplace of the Mayan civilisation, and is close to well-known archaeological sites such as Chichen-Itza and Uxmal.

The single projector system was installed in the city’s Centro Cultural de Merida Olimpo and will be used to underline the Mayan heritage of astronomical knowledge, transforming it into digital images and sounds.

Digistar 3 SP combines a real-time 3D digital astronomy system with a real-time 3D computer graphics display system and adds high-definition video playback.

All of these elements can be shown on the planetarium’s dome from a single-lens DLP projector situated in the middle of the theatre.

The Digistar SP has all the features of E&S’s full-sized Digistar 3, but is sized and priced for smaller theatres. leisure-kit keyword: Digistar
